PLANNING THE TRIP

The Shangri-La Marathon takes place in the remote mountain location and it requires runners to plan for a minimum 5-day trip for the race. Race entry includes transportation from Shangri-La to the race headquarters location and back.

FLIGHT DATES

The destination airport is Dêqên Shangri-La Airport (DIG), only domestic flights are available into this airport. Many flights, including international will transfer through Kunming Changshui International Airport (KMG). When planning your flight to Shangri-La be sure to set your arrival and depature no later than the dates below.

  • Arrive on May 17 
  • Depart on May 23

ARRIVE EARLY

Shangri-La average elevation is 3,280 meters (10,761 feet) above sea level. It is highly recommended that runners arrive 3 to 5-days early into Shangri-La to allow you to fully acclimatize to the high altitude.

EXTENDED JOURNEY

We highly recommend extending your stay for a few extra days to a week or more. This will allow you to fully experience the majestic locations and sights that the Yunnan Province has to offer.
